Off-Season Goalie Specific Training Plan

Program Developed by Gavin McHale of McHale Strength & Conditioning

Elite Concepts is partnering with McHale Strength & Conditioning to offer a comprehensive off-season training plan. This plan is progressive and scale-able and will take you through a progression of three to four months, ending with a speed and performance phase to get you 100% ready for tryouts or training camps. 

This program is appropriate for goaltenders 14 yrs. and older who have some training background. Every exercise comes with a link to an instructional video, but I highly recommend using a local strength coach for a session to check form. The program is delivered as a PDF. Shelley is available for questions and assistance training or further scaling the program. Phase 1 focuses on general adaptation and preparedness. Phase 2 focuses on maximal strength. Phases 3 and 3A focus on speed and power endurance.

Gavin, B. Kin., CSEP-CEP, is the current goaltending coach for the University of Manitoba women's hockey team and has trained goalies at all levels. He has played in the WHL, BCHL, and MJHL. He  works extensively with athletes as the founder of McHale Strength & Conditioning.
